BJ’s Wholesale Club is a large American employer, with 25,000 people working for them. So it’s little wonder that a lot of people looking for jobs wonder: does BJ’s drug test? And if they do, when do they drug test?
Well, from a friend who works there, from research online, and talking to my knowledgeable contacts, I know what the answers are around how, and when BJ’s does drug test.
So buckle up, and let’s get you educated. After that, I will tell you exactly how easy it is to pass a BJ’s drug test.
Does BJ’s Drug Test At Interview?
The answer is yes, BJ’s does drug test at interview. But things aren’t completely clear on when exactly they do it.
Some people say that they were tested right at the end of the interview. Others say they were tested at a local lab, while others say they were drug tested during orientation.
Orientation only takes place after somebody has been formally offered, and accepted, a job. So that seems slightly more unusual, that they would go to all the trouble of getting you into orientation, and then test you for drugs, because if you fail, it’s cost them money.
But generally, yes, at some stage between going in for an interview, and going through orientation, most people report that they were drug tested for a job at BJ’s.
Does BJ’s Wholesale Club Mouth Swab Drug Test?
Unusually amongst major employees, BJ’s do a mouth swab drug test, rather than the normal urine test.
I’m guessing this is for convenience purposes. You don’t need to go to a drug testing lab. I have read a few people online saying they had urine tests, but those all seem to be old comments, so I’m thinking they must have moved towards mouth swab testing.
Mouth swabs are easy to take, you don’t need special training, and you can either send the sample off to be analyzed, or use a special detection kit to see what drug metabolites are found on the spot.
So it’s cheaper, easier and more convenient. However, although it can detect very recent drug use, it’s not accurate for most drugs after about 48 hours. So BJ’s seem to be using it as a deterrent for people who have literally smoked a load of weed the night before their interview, or orientation.
How To Pass A BJ’s Drug Test
When it comes to passing a mouth swab drug test, it depends which category you fall into.
Most drug metabolites disappear from your saliva, meaning they are not detectable by a mouth swab drug test, within about 48 hours.
However, weed is a little different. If you are a light smoker, then the same 48 hours applies. However, if you are a heavy smoker, then THC metabolites could be detected for much longer.
So if it’s really light use, you could just get away with thoroughly brushing your teeth and gums frequently in the couple of days beforehand. And also using a good quality mouthwash, Listerine, something like that, several times a day.
The combination of doing that, plus time, means you are unlikely to test positive to a mouth swab drug test.

What About Heavy Users?
If you are a heavy cannabis smoker, or you have used some sort of substance very recently, then you need something more specialist.
I’ve used Oral Clear saliva neutralizing gum several times, and I thoroughly recommend it (fore detailed review, click here).
Say you’re going for orientation at BJ’s, and you know there’s a good chance you going to be asked to submit a mouth swab sample. Just keep the peace in your pocket, and when they say they are going to do it, wait until you aren’t being observed, and pop the gum in your mouth.
You then chew it for about 30 seconds, and swallow it. This will help to neutralize your gum, giving you a brilliant chance of passing a BJ’s mouth swab drug test.
You only get about 30 minutes of clean time, so you do need to time it properly. There would be no point in going into an interview having already chewed it, if the interview lasts an hour, for example. Its not cheap, a single piece of gum costs 90$, but it’s definately works.
So this stuff is brilliant because it a single capsule you can chew and swallow in 30 seconds, to give yourself clean saliva. At the end of the day, you are always going to get that opportunity if it’s in your pocket, to discreetly put in your mouth, gently chew it, and then have your sample taken.
In fact, whether you are a light smoker or whatever, I would always recommend you take some Oral Clear along, just as an insurance policy.
